Según Bitcoin.com, el Tribunal Superior de Windhoek, Namibia, revocó la libertad bajo fianza de 8 acusados ausentes en un caso de fraude con criptomonedas y trata de personas, y confiscó aproximadamente 29.800 dólares en concepto de fianza. La fiscalía declaró que los 8 individuos incluyen 6 ciudadanos chinos, 1 de Vanuatu y 1 de Singapur, y que 6 de los sospechosos chinos fueron localizados en China. Las autoridades namibias solicitaron asistencia a Interpol para encontrarlos.
El grupo criminal operó bajo una empresa fachada llamada Raylon Investments desde diciembre de 2022 hasta octubre de 2023. Se sospecha que el grupo reclutaba a namibios desempleados y los obligaba a trabajar. El gobierno estatal declaró que estos empleados eran forzados a crear cuentas falsas en redes sociales suplantando a mujeres de Europa y Estados Unidos para atraer a víctimas internacionales a relaciones románticas. Una vez establecida la confianza, las víctimas eran manipuladas para transferir dinero a cuentas de criptomonedas controladas por el grupo criminal. Los investigadores estiman que el grupo robó aproximadamente 267.800 dólares a víctimas de todo el mundo.
