Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” hits 19 weeks at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot ... More Rap Songs charts, passing Drake’s longest runs on each tally. (Photo by Pierre Suu/Getty Images) The feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake may be over in terms of the two musicians releasing diss tracks aimed at one another, but when it comes to the charts and longevity records, the artists will seemingly be at odds for years to come — and possibly forever. Both stars are promoting new albums at the moment, with huge singles going strong on a number of Billboard charts. Lamar and his frequent collaborator SZA are riding high on the success of the single “Luther” from Lamar’s recent album GNX . The track is steady at No. 1 on a handful of tallies, and as it earns another stint in first place, Lamar breaks yet another tie with Drake and pulls ahead. “Luther” Hits 19 Weeks at No. 1 “Luther” leads both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts this week. It remains at No. 1 on a number of other Billboard tallies – including the Hot 100 – but its tenure in first place on those genre-specific lists is especially important. The collaboration has now ruled both consumption-fueled rankings for 19 weeks apiece. In both instances, this latest frame helps Lamar surpass Drake’s greatest showing. Interestingly, the Canadian superstar has hit that figure before as well, though he has done so with different tunes on the two different tallies. The Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart Looking at the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, Drake’s longest run at No. 1 came in 2016, when he was joined by WizKid and Kyla. The trio kept “One Dance” at No. 1 for 18 weeks. “Luther” passes that figure this frame and now sits behind only three other cuts in terms of the longest-running champions: Lamar’s “Not Like Us” with 22 weeks at No. 1, followed by “Kill Bill” by SZA with 21 turns, and “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, which ruled for 20 stints. The Hot Rap Songs Chart A very similar thing happens on the Hot Rap Songs chart this week, where “Luther” manages to break a tie with a different Drake hit. “Hotline Bling” ruled for 18 frames between 2015 and 2016. Before this frame, “Luther” was matched not just with “Hotline Bling,” but also with “Hot Boyz” by Missy Elliott, Lil’ Mo, Nas, Eve, and Q-Tip, as well as “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX — all of which also topped the tally for 18 frames. Just as is the case on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, “Not Like Us” by Lamar is the longest-running champion on the rap ranking, but on this roster, that Drake dig held on for 26 stays. “Luther” is now tied with “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow, with 19 turns at No. 1. If Lamar and SZA can hold on for just one more period, they will match “Old Town Road” with an even 20...and the two may continue on from there.
